Los Vecinos Del Campo Mezcal Artesanal

Opening - A note for context: I typically don't drink Mezcal or tequila but acquired this for a relative. Nose - Smells of diesel fuel, smoke, and something resembling rubber, with undertones of tropical fruit and earthiness. Taste - Surprisingly enjoyable; spice registers first, followed by notes reminiscent of an Islay scotch with hints of burning rubber, smoke, and an earthy, moss-like quality layered over sweet fruit. Finish - Brief, dominated by smoke, diesel, and rubber. Evokes a truck stop atmosphere, but not unpleasantly so. A band-aid note also appears in the finish. Overall - The smokiness seems almost artificial, and the finish is short, but I could drink this. It would likely excel in a cocktail. If you appreciate heavily peated and smoky Islay whiskies, this might be worth exploring.

I'm not typically a tequila drinker, but I do enjoy scotch. This pairs well with anyone who likes a smoky scotch.
