My initial experience with aged Mezcal, and it's quite something. I thoroughly enjoyed the joven Los Amantes Mezcal, and this surpasses it in every way. Delightful smoky barbecue notes, earthy and savory undertones of green peppers, all mellowed and sweetened by two years in Oak. This offers a complex profile, and I anticipate further discoveries with additional tastings. Rated 4.5 stars.

About this bottle
Los Amantes Añejo is a mezcal produced from 100% espadín agave in Tlacolula de Matamoros. The agave hearts are baked in a traditional stone oven, and the juices are then extracted using a horse-powered Egyptian-style stone mill. Natural fermentation occurs in wooden tubs before the spirit is double distilled. This añejo expression spends two years aging, primarily in French oak barrels with a portion also in American oak.
