About this bottle

Tepextate agaves, characterized by their large, twisting prehistoric appearance, were harvested wild after 15 years of maturation for this mezcal. The Master Mescalero Pedro Hernández traditionally produces this spirit in San Baltazar Guelavila, Oaxaca, roasting the agaves with red oak and mesquite and crushing them with a horse-drawn tahona. Fermentation occurs in an open-air pine and oak vat, and the mezcal is twice distilled in a copper pot still before bottling.
