This marks the inaugural release from Hidden Barn, a brand established by Master Distiller Royce Neeley, Master Blender Jackie Zykan, and their associates Nate Winegar and Matt Danker from Colorado's 5280 Whiskey Society. The bourbon was produced at Neeley Family Distillery utilizing a mash bill comprising 70% corn, 20% rye, and 10% malted barley, along with a wild Kentucky yeast. It underwent a double pot-distillation process and aged for four to five years. Jackie Zykan curated the blend from seven barrels for this batch, which is bottled at its native strength of 53% ABV. Series One, Batch #1 became available on July 18, 2022, in Kentucky, Colorado, Florida, and California, with expansion to other markets planned by the close of 2022.

This first batch is respectable, showing some youthful characteristics but is ultimately distinctive. I would not repurchase the bottle, but I don't regret the acquisition. The dominant palate note is unusual: Hazelnut Corn Flakes? Not the sugary kind, but raw corn flakes with a final hint of hazelnut/chocolate and a clear allspice finish.
Licorice and spearmint on the nose. Sweet and nutty upfront. More licorice, candied pecans, honey, then it fades to a slight pepper and herbal finish. Seems like a different type of oak was used to age this one. Unique, good first run.
It possesses a birch-like quality, which is a positive. Not as intense as some others I've tried. I could drink it, but it wouldn't be my regular choice.
It leans towards a single malt character, possibly due to the pot still process? Generally quite good, just different…but different is acceptable!
Floral aroma with honey, chalk, and new oak. Medium finish. Very unique.
Seems like it would work well for cooking and marinades.
