Quite dark in color, resembling tarnished brass with a strong amber hue, leaving a sticky residue on the glass and a few slow-forming legs. The aroma presents abundant green apple, burnt sugar, nutmeg, and molasses cookies. It's rich with brown sugar goodness. Moderate viscosity and somewhat soft on the palate, its mouthfeel complements the smooth combination of rye spice and sweetness. This is a very oaky and sweet offering for a rye, unsurprising given its 10 years of barrel aging... It's big on caramel and sweetness with pervasive vanilla notes. As a bourbon enthusiast, it appeals directly to me. After some time, the green apple and rye spice reappear, along with a hint of eucalyptus. The finish is impressively interesting. I might reconsider my rating as I'm contemplating a 4.

About this bottle
The second bottling in Heaven's Door's Decade Series is a straight rye whiskey. This rye whiskey, aged for 10 years, was developed from a mash bill comprising 95% rye and 5% malted barley. Heaven's Door Master Blender Alex Moore selected from numerous rye whiskeys to craft this expression. Similar to the first straight bourbon release in the series, this bottling is presented at 100 proof and was available starting in June 2023. (SRP $99.99)

This isn't your typical rye. Exceptionally smooth and syrupy with molasses and caramel flavors. A fantastic, enduring finish. Definitely a keeper. Likely made by MGP.
The spicy element builds slowly on the finish, then departs.
