Oak & Eden Bourbon & Spire - Toasted Oak

Initially, I thought the "spire in the bottle" concept was a gimmick. However, after sampling the "Bourbon and Vine" variety, I must admit it was quite good (I'll review it properly once I have a full bottle). This led me to explore the rest of their offerings. The aroma is distinctly woody, reminiscent of a furniture store, accompanied by cinnamon, pear, and an excessive amount of ethanol for a 90-proof spirit. On the tongue, it presents as young and vibrant, with notes of cornbread, honey, baking spices, the pear from the nose, and some pepper. The flavors come across as somewhat harsh and not fully harmonized. The finish seems to showcase the "toasted spire" effect, offering hints of burnt sugar like crème brûlée alongside a more subtle, rather pleasant oak note. The experience is quite brief, though. The texture is simply a standard medium body, lacking any notable features. I enjoyed this less than the Bourbon and Vine, but it's… acceptable. That's likely the highest praise I can offer. At $45, it's neither a bargain nor overpriced, but I won't be purchasing it again.

Part of a virtual tasting with Oak & Eden Batch B079 Aroma - Burnt caramel, charred oak, toasted marshmallow, light black pepper, toffee, dry cinnamon, and moderate ethanol. Flavor - Brown sugar, maple candy, light caramel, sweet oak, light clove, light allspice, and light ethanol. The finish is medium with toasted oak, cinnamon, rye spice, caramel candy, and little to no ethanol burn. To be honest, I'm somewhat surprised by how much I like this. It still feels like an unnecessary gimmick, less consistent than double barreling, but this drinks much richer than 90 proof. I believe they found really good MGP barrels since they claim they are only 3-4 years old.

Sampled neat and with a single ice cube; I find it improves with ice. It's slightly sweet with an oily texture, featuring typical caramel and vanilla notes, followed by what might be raisins on the mid-palate, and possibly a hint of cinnamon. The finish is medium and quite smooth with ice. I'm not adept at identifying scents, so I have no commentary on the aroma. Overall, it's a great choice for a daily drink, especially considering its retail price. It bears some resemblance to a highly regarded bourbon.

The nose features caramel, oak, red hots, pear, mint, blackberry, honey, charcoal, rye, and chocolate, creating a gentle but pleasing profile. The palate is dominated by oak, with notes of char, cinnamon, caramel, blackberry cobbler, and a significant amount of milk chocolate. The finish is oaky and peppery. I find it good, but it would be considerably better if it had a richer character.

The flavor is very sweet caramel and vanilla, with a brief, sweet smoky oak aftertaste. The decorative oak spiral in the bottle is a novel touch. However, the visual appeal of the oak spiral doesn't compensate for the rather bland and uninspired whiskey within.
