In 1960, José Maria Santana, known as Zé Santana, began crafting cachaça in a small watermill located in Guaraciaba, Minas Gerais. The spirit was distributed via donkey by the local muleteers. Its reputation grew across the region, leading to increased demand and the replacement of the original mill with a larger, steam-powered facility. The Guaraciaba brand was registered five years later, and trucks took over from the donkeys. Soon, it became a favored drink in the capital. Currently, Cachaça Guaraciaba is overseen by Zé Santana's successor, with production occurring between June and October, yielding 400,000 to 600,000 liters annually. Cachaça Guaraciaba Extra Premium is aged for three years in oak. It's robust and potent (42% ABV) yet refined and elegant, exhibiting balance, woody notes, and a pleasant sweetness. Visually, it's clear with a beautiful golden hue from oak aging. It leaves abundant tears on the glass. The nose offers delightful aromas of vanilla, coconut, caramel, dried fruit, and sugarcane. On the palate, it has good body, with the alcohol well-integrated with oak essences and other components, creating a rich sensory experience. Low acidity keeps the profile harmonious, leading to a lingering finish.
