Nettie Carpenter 3.3

Nose: Vanilla blossom, lemon zest, fennel, anise, caraway. A caramel note is detectable in the dry glass. Palate: Mildly spicy-sweet, with fennel bulb, fennel seed, caraway seed, licorice, and a hint of vanilla. The texture is light with a slight oiliness. It has an almost watery consistency but isn't thin. I can picture it pairing excellently with roast pork or cured sausage, as its character would cut through the richness. Finish: Medium. Spicy seed flavors with a mild peppery sweetness in the aftertaste. This is my first experience with aquavit. The nose presents an interesting blend of floral and spice notes, comparable to botrytis semillon meeting caraway liqueur. The palate reveals complex botanicals and citrus oils, yet the combination is refined and elegant. There's a warming sensation akin to mild pepper. Overall, it offers a gentle yet intricate profile, possessing enough character to be engaging without overwhelming a novice palate. I enjoyed the serving but am unsure if I'd purchase a full bottle. If I did, it would likely join the ranks of ouzo, grappa, and tsipouro as a seldom-used bottle in the cabinet. Incredibly, it's categorized here as "another brandy." It is not. "Above Average": 83/100 (3.25 stars)
