Reviews for this bottling vary widely. However, I found it to be quite unremarkable. It's difficult to find fault, yet nothing truly stands out. Vanilla on the nose and palate. It's very sweet. Some pine. Custard. No noticeable oak, but a mild, slight caramel flavor, and the finish is vanilla and some pecan. There's no harshness, and it's easy to drink. Worth the cost.

About this bottle
Familia Camarena Añejo is a tequila made from 100% blue agave. The Camarena family, who have been cultivating and harvesting agave in the Jalisco Highlands (Los Altos) since 1860, distills it. The agave piñas are slow-roasted in traditional stone ovens for several days, after which the juices are fermented and distilled. The Añejo expression was aged for one year in ex-bourbon barrels.

A robust nose of smoky agave and oak leads into a full-bodied palate echoing those smoky agave notes. It's sweet and smooth, with subtle citrus whispers of lemon and lime. The finish is smoky and oaky, featuring a velvety, lingering mouthfeel and a gentle citrusy smokiness.
An outstanding tequila! Smooth, whether served on the rocks, straight, or in a cocktail.
Zesty, with some vanilla
