* My bottle: From Lot no. SMA-124 Nose: Exceptionally mellow, well-rounded, with fruit and floral notes supported by a subtle sandalwood base. It has a sweet, plant sap aroma with a hint of salty tang. Evokes a crisp, coastal highland single malt with a delicate sherry finish and a whisper of smoke. A little water both mellows and accentuates the smoke. A truly delightful aroma. Palate: An intriguing harmony of sweet and salty. It begins with a gentle sweet and fruity taste, which quickly shifts to a salty character. As it develops, a chili warmth emerges, but without pepper – it's more fruity than spicy. While it rests in the mouth, smokiness gradually unfolds, then an intense wave of salt suddenly washes over the palate, only to recede just as swiftly. Finish: Extended, salty/sweet, warming, and mellow. Salty and smoky vegetal notes persist. Eventually, a mineral sweetness replaces the saltiness. Quite briny, but the nose has a captivating soft creaminess that repeatedly draws you back. The palate initially seems reserved and subtle, but it rapidly and unexpectedly flourishes. The pronounced salty note might be overwhelming for some; if so, a splash of water opens it up wonderfully, revealing a balancing sweetness. "Good": 84/100 (3.75 stars)

About this bottle
Details surrounding this mezcal are intentionally withheld. Del Maguey respects the producer, but keeps the maestro's identity, their village, and production specifics private. This is the same maestro mezcalero responsible for their renowned Tobala. Because Espadín is comparatively inexpensive and grows quickly, it allows for an appreciation of the regional terroir and the producer's technique, despite the anonymity.

A delicate, Joven Agave spirit produced by Mezcaleros Don Rogelio Martinez Cruz & Leopoldino Miranda for Del Maguey Mezcal NOM-O41X in Santa Maria Albarradas, Oaxaca, Mexico, made with Maguey Espadin and spring water in a copper still. It begins with an aromatic bouquet of tropical flowers, citrus, earth, herbs, and spices; its rich and full character adds notes of vanilla, agave, fresh jalapeño, green asparagus, caramelized pineapple, lemon, black pepper, rose water, and tropical flowers after rain, leading to a slightly creamy, medium-length finish with notes of butterscotch, Orange Creamsicle, sea spray, and a beach campfire. Quick impression. Not getting much from this, as discussed with a friend, it's been open a while. Just noting it down. I'd like to taste a fresh sample sometime. Thanks to my friend anyway!
It has smoke and citrus with menthol. It's also sweet but intensely bitter. There's also a hint of cherry. It's interesting, but I don't care for it. It has a strong taste of brine.
