My grandparents became convinced tequila was a health remedy. It's ironic because most people in America discover tequila at parties with friends, and I'm trying it because of my grandparents. Getting back to the drink, it's quite pleasant, but I definitely favor the Silver version. The bourbon cask aging results in an unusual, funky contrast that I dislike, yet also find appealing. The bourbon cask imparts corn sweetness, medicinal rye, and light oak spice, which feels peculiar against the smooth agave, creamy sweetness, maple syrup notes, texture, vegetable flavors, and subtle floral hints. While I think the Silver is superior, both are good.

About this bottle
The Roca collection from Patrón, introduced in summer 2014, utilizes tahonas for crushing cooked agaves. These two-ton stones gently process the agaves, and both the resulting fibers and juice are incorporated into fermentation and distillation. Their añejo is matured for 14 months in American ex-bourbon barrels that are used only once. It is bottled at 88 proof.

An Agave Spirit made using the "Tahona" method and aged for about 14 months. It starts with aromas of cooked agave, fruit, wood, spice, mushroom, and raisin; then a fruity character emerges with notes of pineapple, grapefruit, wood, nuts, and hints of citrus, ginger, black pepper, caramel, and vanilla; leading to an earthy finish of moderate duration. May 2017
Good quality. The nose has abundant citrus, agave, and pepper, along with caramel and vanilla barrel notes. It's smooth, though the vanilla tastes a bit artificial, and the finish is brief.
Tastes of anise, fruit, and spice. Smells like licorice and spices. It's good, but not outstanding.
Works perfectly for Añejo old fashioneds and as a good tequila to sip.
Quite smooth with a nice finish.
