This particular expression is part of a whisky line from Islay named "Elements of Islay," which draws inspiration from the Periodic Table of Chemical Elements, using initials of well-known single malt whiskies. This one is a Bunnahabhain 8 years old, presenting a gold color and bottled at 58.4% ABV. The aroma is a perfect blend of chocolate and oranges, with notes of chocolate powder and incredibly fresh orange juice. There's a distinct orange peel spice, cocoa nibs, some lemon zest, and other fresh citrus fruits, along with milk powder and orange caramel. The initial taste of orange peel was amazing, like chocolate powder mix. The palate begins with spice and orange acidity, followed by orange peel and thick orange syrup. After a few sips, a vanilla ice cream note emerged, along with a hint of salt. The aftertaste features a very acidic orange flavor and ginger; it's not very long and certainly lacks complexity. Chocolate and sawdust appeared after three sips, alongside orange mixed with salt. Overall, this Bunnahabhain felt somewhat simple for a cask strength bottling. It includes the classic Bunna characteristics of oranges, salt, and chocolate in a very clean and potent manner, but it's missing some depth. It remains a decent single malt, though the higher ABV didn't significantly enhance the flavors or offer anything novel. It's not overpriced and comes in a 50cl decanter, suggesting it's meant for occasional relaxed sipping. My rating is 84 out of 100.
