Douglas Laing's Double Barrel Highland Park & Bowmore

I sampled a special blend from a producer, a limited malt from two esteemed distilleries; this particular one was a beautiful mix of two renowned brands. This expression, bottled at a standard strength, makes me anticipate a peaty experience. On the nose, some peaty notes are present, but they are mild. Notes of rubber shoes, red chili, and mud appear. It also has a buttery/cake-like profile, similar to freshly baked brownies. The aroma feels oily. After the initial sip, the scent shifted to a sandy beach. Further sips revealed a milky profile. On the palate, just three flavors: ashtray, spices, and sweet peat. The aftertaste was very smoky and inviting. Ashes and intense saltiness were present. Nice spiciness too. Overall, it delivered the expected peaty character, but everything was subdued and could even be called muted. I found it to be a safe dram, enjoyable but not memorable. Expecting a dramatic experience given the components, but it didn't deliver that. My rating is 84 out of 100.

Quite pleasantly surprised by this bottling. I own a bottle of Highland Park 10 which I very much like, but this is significantly better! Light peat, spicy, fruity, and sweet. Overall very mellow, refreshing and smooth with just the right amount of kick, spice and smoke coming through on the finish.

The aroma brings forth notes of caramel and peach. On the tongue, it's sweet vanilla with a floral end.
