Absolutely love this. I'm unsure if it's the agave type or clay pot distillation that imparts that distinct earthy note, but I just adore it. Not much else is happening, it's a simple dram, but it has an excellent palate.

About this bottle
Del Maguey Barril Mezcal is expertly crafted by maestro palenquero Florencio “Don Lencho” Laureano Carlos Sarmiento in Santa Catarina Minas, using 100% maguey barril. The barril agave requires a 15 to 20-year maturation period before harvest. After harvesting, the piñas are slow-roasted in the earth for four to five days and then hand-milled to extract their juices. Natural fermentation in wooden vats lasts 15 to 25 days, and the spirit is distilled twice in an "ancient style clay still with bamboo tubing." It is bottled at 49% ABV.
