From the Sydney Whisky Show on May 20th, 2023 (Whisky #4). Nose: Charred cereal, cooked fruit, malt syrup, broth, and ash. Palate: Malt and tannins arrive, followed by a fleeting sweetness of cherry. An odd progression featuring a strong charcoal taste that made identification and description difficult. Was it burnt carob, burnt walnuts, or burnt oak? Finish: Medium with malt and pronounced char. This was made from their own distillate, unlike other whiskies tasted from Craft Works at the show. It was challenging to offer praise to the distillery owner who served me this dram. It was strange and off-putting, but thankfully spittoons were available, allowing me to discreetly discard it while claiming I was "pacing myself." "Inferior": 65/100 (1.5 stars)
