Corazon De Agave Single Barrel Reposado Tequila Aged In Blanton's Bourbon Barrels

Corazon Blantons Single Barrel Gallenstein #8 I met up with a friend to get this bottle they had secured for me on a recent trip. When I went to pick it up, they handed me a bottle of Corazon spirit that had recently been removed from a Blanton's barrel located south of Ohio. Kentucky and Mexico… This might be more captivating than a season of Narcos. I do not combine my tequila and my bourbon… (a certain voice)…Ever. Don't misunderstand me, I'll happily drink my brown spirits and have complementary shots of aged agave all evening without complaint. Whether it's celebrating the end of a great night with a specific brand or ending a wonderful evening with your partner after finishing half a bottle of another famous juice, I simply don't mix my tequila and bourbon…. Blantons and Corazon, no way… I was born in the 70s, some things just don't belong together….or so I believed. In the glass, the appearance resembles infused cucumber water. Immediately upon pouring, you are met with the distinct aroma that only tequila possesses. There are no visual or olfactory cues that distinguish this pour as anything other than agave in a glass. The first sip suggests otherwise. Yes… that familiar lowland burn is present to greet your palate like an eager retiree, but then it vanishes. The spirit makes its descent as smoothly as a freshly waxed surface. But upfront, you are left with a spiciness that can only be described as……..wait for it….Blantons!! What magical trick have you played on me, Corazon? Honestly, this is a dangerously drinkable spirit. I experience the satisfying quality of a spirit from the US that, at 80 proof, doesn't deliver the burn or the buzz that my favorite bourbon does, but could easily lead to finishing the bottle in one sitting. Served neat, this is like that friend at a local gathering spot celebrating a buddy's success, getting tipsy on cheap shots while retaining just enough sophistication to impress a discerning observer. I absolutely love a certain tequila brand for shots, sipping, and even mixers. Another brand is a certain person's favorite agave for me and it consistently works. But this right here would easily serve either purpose, any day of the week. Corazon means heart in Spanish… and whichever of you younger folks decide to age your agave mash in bourbon barrels… you have my heart. Tequila with a bourbon finish and under $40? I'll buy two every time. I've seen a few recipes for mixing this and I plan on using it for the next outdoor gathering. I will also be seeking out the other expressions. Happy Wednesday everyone. This Fall Release 2020 is an intense agave spirit from Corazon Distillery (Nom 1103) in Jalisco, Mexico, aged for 6 to 8 months in a Blanton's Bourbon Barrel. It has an aromatic start with notes of wood, spice, nuts, flowers, and vegetal elements. Its complex character includes notes of agave, oak, cedar, almonds, hints of grain, and caramel, leading to a spicy finish with notes of vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, and white pepper. From October 2021.

Blanton's is certainly present aromatically and on the tongue. I'd enjoy this neat or in a tequila-inspired take on American drinks.
