Slight pepper at the start then shifts to stronger herbal green notes, more minerality than other espadins, with a very intense amount of woody smoke. The finish is still heavy in smoke, but also adds intense black pepper. It's definitely a smokier mezcal, suitable for any drinks requiring more smoke.

About this bottle
Convite Mezcal Espadin Esencial serves as the introductory mezcal for the brand. It is made from 100% espadin agave, harvested at eight years of age. Production follows artisanal methods, including cooking the agave in a conical underground stone oven, crushing it with a donkey-drawn tahona, and natural fermentation in wooden tanks. The spirit is double distilled in a copper pot and presented at 40% ABV.

This is an ideal introductory mezcal: it has the typical sweet, vegetal aromas and a crisp, citrusy taste with a respectable finish. At under $40 a bottle, it's a great way for novices to start with mezcal and a fine choice for regular use at home.
