About this bottle

Cenote Reposado Tequila is produced entirely from agave. The tequila undergoes a three-month maturation period in American oak barrels prior to bottling. The name 'Cenote' refers to a natural pit or sinkhole in limestone, often found in the Yucatán region, which contains underground water sources.

A friend recommended this, and they've enjoyed enough spirits globally to impress even the most seasoned drinker. The blue bottle beautifully highlights the golden liquid inside. This appears to be a straightforward tequila, unadorned, with packaging that honors its Mexican heritage and delicious agave spirit. Once poured, the color shifts to a bronze-gold mix, seeming clearer than usual, yet it shows significant oak influence for its brief aging period. The aroma is led by sea salt and smoke, reminiscent of peated scotch. Vanilla and caramel notes from the barrel are present but secondary. The body is indeed light, allowing initial tastes of sweetened agave, particularly molasses and brown sugar, to come through. This sweetness quickly fades, replaced by seaweed and the vanilla and caramel barrel notes. A more natural agave flavor emerges in the finish, accompanied by a notably strong burn that complements the earlier, softer tastes. While this was a great suggestion, I suspect we might not have chosen the ideal aging, even though we considered reposado for a considerable time. The raw agave and subtle vegetal notes make me wish for the blanco, where the softer flavors and intriguing smoky elements would surely enhance a unique añejo. Regardless, it will be a welcome addition to my collection and enjoyable with company.

Color: Amber. Taste: Sweet and smooth on the palate, with wood notes mingled with chocolate, vanilla, banana, cooked agave, and a touch of spice. Aroma: Very mild and pleasant scents with notes of wood, chocolate, vanilla, fruit, a very faint hint of smoke, and spices. Aged in new oak barrels for over 2 months.

A bit strong tasting for me, not bad but could be a little smoother and less straight up alcohol.
