Cazul 100 Reserva Reposado Tequila

Consumed neat. The nose presents light caramel, oak, vanilla, hints of green herbs/anise, and a touch of alcohol. The taste is similar, very sweet with light caramel, vanilla, smoke, oak, some pepper, green herbs like tarragon, and a subtle floral or perfumed note. The finish is quite long, with tartness, oak tannins, saccharine sweetness, vanilla, black pepper, a hint of salt, and a little heat. It's averagely smooth, not harsh, but has a definite bite. The flavors are quite strong and enjoyable enough. It possesses a spicy/floral/sweet profile that is unusual. A nice drink, but I think the price is a bit steep. I'm docking it slightly on value because the añejo is a bit better for a small increase in cost.

I went to the local liquor store to buy a bottle of white wine (I was making mushroom straganoff over whole wheat noodles and needed the white wine for a reduction). I noticed a mini bottle of this and decided to try it. Worst case scenario: I'd waste the $4. Best case scenario: I'd finally discover a tequila I enjoy. Unfortunately, the former scenario played out. Two words sum up my thoughts and review on this: Absolutely not.

An elegant agave spirit from NOM 1137 aged for 12 months in oak. It presents an aromatic beginning with notes of agave, wood, herbs, and spices. A rich life added notes of caramel and vanilla, culminating in a balanced, medium-length finish with notes of oak, pepper, and chocolate. April 2016 / 2017

Pale gold color Oak, agave, and a touch of char. Agave, grassy, oak, with a little sweetness in the flavor. Spice notes and a slight warmth to finish

Butterscotch and vanilla, very similar to Don Roberto, oak tannin and slightly dry. Excellent.
