Casamigos Blanco Tequila

The last sample from a small bottle of a late 2025 release left me with a novelty item, yet it remains tequila. I'd previously tried the reposado version and recalled it as one of the sweetest I'd encountered, almost suitable for serving over ice cream if not for its thin texture. Despite this being a standard 80 proof, unaged tequila, it's concerning that the label suggests a vanilla finish, making me question how aged expressions could achieve such intense sweetness. I hope some of the more vegetal agave notes are present without being overshadowed by sweetness. The aroma is quite potent and somewhat acrid, with notes of carbon and cleaning agents, reminiscent of high-proof distillate straight from the still. Nothing about it is appealing, though very faint traces of raw, vegetal agave and the anticipated vanilla are detectable. The initial taste and body are both light and unremarkable, but this shifts rapidly as the carbon and vegetal notes from the nose begin to irritate the gums with a raw, aggressive sting, again like fresh distillate. The finish includes hints of green bell pepper and black peppercorn, along with a subtle, perhaps artificial, vanilla note that isn't particularly sweet. However, it's far too potent and unrefined to be considered sweet or broadly appealing. This is certainly a letdown, typical of many celebrity-endorsed spirits, and falls between 'unenjoyable' and 'actively disliked.' It's unsuitable for sipping neat or for most cocktail applications. Considering there are many other tequilas in this price range offering superior flavor and quality (without the celebrity association), this one is best overlooked both in stores and at bars.

Picked this up at Costco for around $48 on a whim. While I'm not usually a fan of blanco tequila except for cocktails, I do enjoy mezcal. Perhaps my recent interest in mezcal led to this impulsive tequila purchase, an attempt to discover what I might have been missing? Regardless, the answer matters less than the question: what does this tequila taste like and is it worth stocking? I sampled it neat in a shot glass and a copita, and also in various cocktails like a tequila martini (60ml Blanco Tequila, 30ml Bianco Vermouth, orange bitters, orange twist garnish), Margarita, Mexican Mule, and as a chilled shot (unadorned). The aroma is dominated by agave with notes of lime, vanilla, mint, coconut, and a faint hint of ethanol. The palate is pleasantly sweet, very straightforward, and easy to drink. I dislike the word "smooth," but I imagine that's how many admirers would describe it. I'd lean towards "bland," "predictable," "stereotypical," and even "the Macallan of tequilas." To be absolutely clear, it tastes good. It will appeal to everyone. Some will adore it. A select few will briefly mention having tried it, noting that it doesn't warrant a repeat tasting because it's simply unengaging. I count myself among that group. This is the tequila to offer at gatherings for those who want to take tequila shots but are deterred by harshness – you know, adults. It's not ideal for cocktails, lacking the character to stand out in a Margarita or other juice-heavy mixed drink. It's acceptable, but... there are superior options. It definitely won't work in a good Bloody Maria; it's far too mellow. Flavorful without being challenging or bold, it's overpriced and makes a decent gift. It's above average, but not quite... so a 3-star rating feels appropriate.

My primary issue with this brand is its cost. While it's understandable that with celebrity backing and high demand they can charge more, it seems insufficient for a tequila that uses additives and possesses a very artificial taste. For the price, I expect the genuine article, not something I'd only consider for mixing or occasional sipping. To be clear, there's nothing inherently wrong with this tequila on its own, unless you're a staunch tequila purist. However, if you're not, this is an exceptionally smooth and enjoyable tequila. It genuinely has no burn and barely any finish. It's simply a very straightforward, incredibly easy-to-drink product, perfect for shots or cocktails. The aroma consists of agave and (artificial) vanilla, nothing more. Similarly, the taste is just agave, caramel, and some fruit I couldn't quite identify, though I'd guess dried plum. The whole experience feels entirely manufactured, though. It almost presents as a sweetened, flavored tequila rather than the authentic spirit. Considering the price range, this is unacceptable. It's one thing to create an accessible product through artificial means, but quite another to charge so much for it. It's a clear case of paying for the brand and status over the actual liquid. This is a tequila for people who typically dislike tequila, and that's fine. It will likely introduce many newcomers to the spirit. However, I cannot in good conscience award it more stars given the price. If it were priced between $18-25, it would easily earn 3.75 stars and become my go-to for mixing in sweet cocktails where the more delicate tequila flavors wouldn't be noticeable.

After my recent time with mezcal, I bought a tequila I had wanted to try for over a year and really should have checked the last few comments. This tequila isn't worth the cost, and in my region, it's just over $40 a bottle, and I've had superior Blanco tequilas for much less. In the glass, it coats the sides well, and the aroma is quite strong, but that's not bad; it immediately signals you're about to drink genuine agave tequila, not something mixed with a neutral spirit. The body is earthy and a little rough, but it's an unaged Blanco. The finish is sharp and peppery, with the earthy notes being most prominent. My preferred Blanco tequila is one I'll be reviewing soon. Considering the price, I won't be buying this again, but I am searching for new tequilas and am open to recommendations. Cheers.

This spirit likely needs no introduction. I'm venturing outside my usual whiskey choices to try another tequila. The Reposado was a decent mid-tier tequila, and I'm hoping this one is similar. Nose: Lime and agave. Vanilla and a sweetness reminiscent of marshmallows. Floral notes, alongside fresh-cut grass. Lemongrass. Dragonfruit. Palate: Vanilla. Cucumber. Lime and grapefruit. Peppermint. White pepper. Jalapeño. Dragonfruit. More lemon and lime; quite like a Sprite. Finish: Pure agave. Cucumber. Dragonfruit. Lime and grapefruit. Black pepper spice. A short to moderate finish. A nice, clean tequila. I believe I might favor this over the Reposado. It tastes more natural and isn't dominated by a single prominent flavor like the Repo was. At $45, I've observed a slight price increase over the years, but the quality justified the cost in this instance. Score: 3.75/5.

Sampled neat. On the nose, I detected minerals, salinity, lime, and a floral sweetness. Initially, alkaline minerals hit, followed by a massive floral vanilla surge that overwhelmed the mouth. The texture was acceptable, but the flavors were sweet, lacked depth, and faded quickly. However, the finish offered a surprise: grassy notes and a tingling mint that emerged, intensified, and coated and numbed the mouth. Quite peculiar – starting modestly on the palate and becoming more intriguing on the finish. A pleasant, clean, and saline tequila, but the vanilla and mint are the main players. Roasted agave is barely, if at all, noticeable. Too costly for mixing.
