Don Julio 70 Añejo Claro Tequila

I generally only care for extra añejo tequilas. This one’s appearance is crystal clear, which makes me hesitant at first, but it was freely poured at a family event, so I’ll give it a try. The aroma offers the typical smooth sweetness found in premium tequilas. Nothing unpleasant here, so that’s a positive start. On the palate, there’s a hint of citrus that softens the traditional tequila character. It almost gives the impression of a gin-influenced tequila. A touch of alcohol warmth appears mid-palate, but overall, it remains quite smooth. In conclusion, this isn’t a bad clear tequila. I wouldn’t swap it for my usual extra añejos, but it exceeded my expectations. Tequila enthusiasts might find this a worthwhile variation to explore.

Consumed neat. The nose presents sweet vanilla with subtle floral, green herbal, mineral, and ash/char notes. The taste is agave-sweet with hints of caramel, blossom honey, vanilla, cardamom, cake batter/cream soda, and green herbs. Any oak influence is minimal. The finish is sweet, vanilla, and grassy/herbal with a touch of barrel spice. Overall, it tastes good, but it doesn't taste like authentic tequila. There appear to be a fair amount of additives. I favor this over some expensive options like Clase Azul and even Don Julio 1942, but more authentic tequilas can be found for slightly less.

I'm quite selective with 5-star ratings, but regarding tequila, I adore this. I'm not a big tequila enthusiast. Any tequila I've had previously was when I was younger, with a shot that was difficult to finish or in a margarita. But this spirit, I CONSUME ON THE ROCKS. In fact, if you're doing anything other than drinking it neat, you're squandering a remarkable tequila. I possess two bottles of this and only indulge occasionally. Highly recommended!

Incredibly smooth with a subtle sweetness of caramelized agave and vanilla, plus a hint of pepper. It's very easy to drink. I suppose I expected more. It tastes fine, but it seems like the richness was diminished when the color was removed. I concur with a previous reviewer. It feels like a novelty, best for upscale nightlife. 1942 is superior. Not currently available in Ontario.

Surprisingly, this is my preferred expression from this brand so far. The aroma is identical to the anejo, as expected, but the filtration process, along with the color removal, also eliminated the bitterness, resulting in a smooth, refined finish. I love it. So much love. Deeply love it.
