A certain release from a major producer was the joke of its year. Remember that movie quote about a minor injury? Thankfully, independent bottlings exist. The nose offers wood polish, cut flowers and cereal notes alongside plaited bread, brown sugar and anise. It arrives honeyed and herbal, with the palate developing vanilla, white pepper and drying oak spices. The age is evident. Lovely notes of icing sugar, cinnamon and cocoa define the solid finish. Is it truly superior to the flashy original? We'll declare it a tie.
