Cachaçaria Melicana, situated in Bom Despacho, Minas Gerais, is a craft distillery founded by Carlos José de Assis. A connoisseur of honey brandy, he initially produced the spirit for personal use, adhering to strict quality standards. His pursuit of perfection led him to create a sugar cane distillate, which also impressed his friends. Recognizing a business opportunity, Carlinhos, as he's known, decided to commercialize his creations. He named his cachaça "Melicana," combining "Mel" (honey) and "Cana" (sugar cane), the primary ingredients. Established in 2004, Cachaçaria Melicana produces traditional amburana cachaça and spirits from honey and molasses, which are then aged in barrels to develop their distinct flavors. Cachaça Melicana Três Madeiras Pura Arte 700ml is a special blend, aged first in chestnut for two years, then in balsam for another two, and finally in amburana vats for one year. It is a light spirit with 40% ABV. The name Melicana reflects the distillery's production of both honey-based spirits and sugar cane cachaças. Source: Cachaçaria Nacional
