From Alexânia, Goiás, Cana da Terra cachaça originates from a 19th-century lineage near Pires do Rio, predating the 1888 abolition of slavery. Around 1830, ancestors began cultivating sugarcane and coffee, establishing early stills powered by animals to produce cachaça and sugar for trade. Following the Lei Áurea, societal upheavals, tropical illnesses, and crises leading to WWI plunged the family from wealth into poverty. According to a descendant, it wasn't until post-WWII and industrialization that his parents managed to rebuild their agricultural operations. The narrative shifts to a generational return to the land: in 1973, parents sent children to study in the city; by 1979, one son joined the Navy. After dedicating thirty years to national service, he is now retracing the family's steps, applying his acquired knowledge and modern distillation, aging, and bottling techniques. In 2010, he resolved to continue the legacy initiated by his great-grandfather in the 19th century with Cana do Mato cachaça. The establishment of the Cana Brava Alambique in Alexânia, GO, was influenced by proximity to consumer hubs and the regional climate, characterized by distinct wet and dry seasons.
