Buchanan's Malts Edition

Whiskey has changed considerably over the last fifteen years. In the early 2000s, in my country (Ecuador), the common choices were only the traditional blended whiskies: Johnnie Walker, Chivas Regal, Buchanan's, and Old Parr. You may not recognize the last two, or have even tried them, but they are extremely popular here. Everyone was drinking the 12-year-old versions of these "standards" until single malts became widely available. Today, you can find a Blended Malt from each of those brands, which years ago were exclusively represented by Johnnie Walker Green Label. Chivas Regal introduced their "Ultis" expressions, a pricey, quality whiskey; and now Buchanan's is following suit. This "Malts" edition is a Blend of malts, with no grain whisky, in an effort to offer something distinct and appeal to the growing number of whiskey enthusiasts. Packaged at 40% ABV, with a golden hue. On the nose, notes of peach dominate. A beautiful peach aroma upfront, with hints of pepper. It also has syrup and cherry notes, plus baked brownies and vanilla. Very inviting and unique. On the palate, it's straightforward but pleasant. Flavors of peach syrup, pears, and a nice caramel. The aftertaste initially seems very diluted, which gave me pause for a moment; however, a pleasant smoky aftertaste emerged beautifully. Notes of hay and smoke. In summary, this is a highly engaging whiskey that is easy to enjoy. I don't believe it's readily available, but I suggest purchasing a bottle to share with acquaintances, especially those who aren't overly particular about their drinks. My rating is 83 out of 100.
