I am quite certain, at this point, that I cannot purchase any more of their new products from Limestone Branch. I was very enthusiastic about this, particularly going in without knowing the botanical choices. For contemporary or new world gins, there's always a significant variation in the botanicals used and their quality. I am very pleased to learn that a substantial amount of the botanicals are grown on their exceptionally beautiful property. The aroma is very clean and noticeably less intense than I would have expected for 96 proof. I detect lime peel, white peppercorns, and possibly some honeysuckle on the nose. The juniper is present at a mild to medium level and complements the other botanical scents well. Immediately, even at room temperature, the initial taste is very fresh, and for a brief moment, it resembles fresh juices. However, this develops into citrus peels, primarily lime at the start and orange, even blood orange, closer to the finish. Many of the floral botanicals really stand out here, but this is also where the proof becomes apparent with a rather substantial kick, making it harder to discern the more delicate ingredients. The finish is both long and short; the proof fades quickly while the flavor lingers for a good while. The citrus peels are what truly dominate the finish, but not to the extent that any bitter pith comes through. I believe strong orange flavors are what I taste last before my next sip, and this is quite unique and refreshing. Having tasted this neat and at room temperature, I am very enthusiastic about its potential in cocktails. While most people might reach for tonic or a martini, I would personally start with cocktails incorporating fresh herbs or flowers, and fresh, less common fruit juices like pomegranate or mango.

Bowling & Burch Gin is produced at Limestone Branch Distillery in Kentucky. The name honors two branches of head distiller Steve Beam's family, who were passionate about agriculture and horticulture. Crafted in a "new world" style, it incorporates 17 distinct botanicals, some grown on the distillery grounds. Lemon verbena, bitter orange peel, rosemary, and honeysuckle are among the disclosed botanicals. It became available in select markets starting in early 2020.
