BEARFACE Wilderness Series Matsutake

Nose: Mushroom and earth. Some slightly sweet notes of strawberry milk Palate: Leather, taste some more berry sugar sweetness, pineapple, obvious mushroom influence, incredibly manly rustic flavors as the sweetness fades into paper bag, dank autumn morning hiking, pizza crust Finish: Mushroom disappears, leaving only the sweeter and earthy notes Feels like this one is best for mixing to add richer kicks to a cocktail, but for sipping neat, it will need more time to grow on me. This was written after a second tasting. The first tasting was too surprising for me to write anything, haha. The mushroom is very dominant and hard to ignore due to how peculiar it felt in a whiskey. I wouldn't recommend adding too much water; it made it taste like watery canned mushroom soup. I do appreciate the uniqueness of the concept, though.

This is distinctive. It has earthy, sweet, and oaky notes, with a bready character. Describing this whisky is quite challenging. However, I appreciate that it deviates from being just another sweet, buttery Canadian spirit. It possesses sweetness, but also dusty oak characteristics and discernible mushroom notes. If you enjoy mushrooms on your pizza, you might like this. It's quite intriguing.

This offers a peculiar experience. It evokes the scent of a Canadian forest after a heavy downpour: trees, pine needles, tree sap, fresh mushrooms, and damp earth. Additionally, there are notes of sultanas, very astringent Bordeaux wine, vanilla cake with powdered sugar, corn syrup, fennel, and a hint of Orange Crush soda.
