This is a mediocre Rye at best. A relative gifted me a bottle, and after two weeks of sampling, I can confirm every other Rye I own surpasses it, including Bulleit Rye, Sazerac, and Rittenhouse. It talks a big game but doesn't deliver. While this is a harsh assessment, I anticipated a better-than-average whiskey. It does possess a pleasant spicy aroma, but it's quickly overshadowed by a medicinal taste that lingers. On a positive note, it makes a solid Old Fashioned and a decent Manhattan, but for a supposedly excellent Rye, it's only suitable for cocktails. I plan to revisit this whiskey in about three weeks to see if the flavor profile evolves, but at its current price, I cannot endorse this Rye. Superior alternatives exist for considerably less.

A well-rounded Rye Whiskey from Houston, Texas. Its aroma is characterized by grain, wood, herbs, and spices. A rich and herbal flavor profile follows, with notes of vanilla, pine, a touch of brown sugar and maple. It concludes with a balanced, medium-length finish featuring oak, rye spice, spearmint, and mild pepper. January 2017 / August 2022

It's more minty than spicy. It has a very effervescent quality with some sweetness. It's not bad for a rye, and I'd be interested in trying it in an old fashioned or manhattan.

I'm surprised more people haven't tried this one. It's a very nice sipper on its own, and excellent in a Manhattan. It's not outstanding, but it's really, really good:)

Though I know it's made with purchased grain, the toffee, mint, and grassy rye spices are quite delicious.

The nose suggests banana, but upon tasting, I envisioned sandwiches, specifically pumpernickel bread!
