Kentucky Vintage Small Batch Bourbon

This definitely requires some time to open up in the glass for me. Initially, the aroma suggested a basic American whiskey with some scotch malt undertones, and the first taste was akin to insecticide. However, after a few minutes and about 5-6 drops of water, the charred wood smoke appeared, along with cherry and cola notes. But then, a bit later, it seemed to diminish. While it's an unbranded blend, I suspect there might be some pot still spirit and/or column still spirit with wider cuts (to account for some unusual 'off' flavors), possibly combined with chill filtration to explain the 'thin' texture, especially considering its 90 proof.

This is a decent, though unremarkable, bourbon. The nose is rich with vanilla and caramel sweetness, subtly hinting at the smoke that follows on the palate. As suggested by the aroma, the palate begins with some smokiness which then yields back to the vanilla sweetness. The finish includes a bit of heat and spice but is not overly long. It's certainly an enjoyable pour, particularly with the unexpected smoky notes.

Cinnamon stick, Cinnamon Red Hots, and, you guessed it, Cinnamon! It feels and tastes more like a higher proof spirit than the stated 90. Excellent mouthfeel and a touch on the oily side. A decent finish with a spicy, slightly smoky, and woody end. I discovered this by chance for only $29 in Myrtle Beach. Overall, a solid bargain whiskey, particularly if you enjoy cumin?, coriander?, clove?... oh wait, CINNAMON!

Nose: Leather and oak, possibly a hint of burnt marshmallow. Palate: Sweet walnuts and oak are prominent, with subtle vanilla and leather notes. Hints of fig and spice appear towards the end. The finish is dry but substantial, with leathery oak and an earthy quality. Overall: Enjoyable. A gem for those who appreciate full-bodied, oaky spirits. The finish is distinctive and lasting, though not quite sweet enough. I will purchase a third bottle when possible!

An interesting pour. The nose shows more complexity than a certain Kentucky bourbon, but it's also hotter and more astringent. The palate is quite different, however. Still thin and dominated by corn sweetness, it adds an intriguing floral, almost perfume-like component. It's a strange comparison, like imagining the scent of an elderly cashier at a department store.

Without ice, this rates around a 3.0. Adding a cube elevates it to a 3.5, tasting quite similar to Weller Reserve. It's an excellent value bourbon, much like Pure Kentucky, which some even prefer. The occasional lingering sweetness, akin to artificial sweetener, is its only drawback, and it's not always present.
