Town Branch Single Malt

Malt and grain notes are present. If I were tasting this blind, I would genuinely mistake it for a Speyside. I am very impressed with this offering. It lacks the floral intensity of Balcones Lineage or Stranahan's Blue Peak, yet I find myself returning to this one more frequently. Subsequent tastings have revealed molasses and milk chocolate. I would definitely suggest it if you can locate it, and I appreciate the age statement. Updated rating from 3.75 to 4.25: This expression consistently improves with each bottle I acquire. I now detect tropical notes, such as ripe mango, alongside the other tasting notes. I've shared it at multiple gatherings and successfully converted individuals who claimed not to enjoy whiskey into wanting to purchase a bottle. It's simply an outstanding whiskey. Cheers!

Tastes like vodka with a faint hint of scotch. Makes me feel like I'm getting sick with COVID. It's not unpleasant, it just lacks significant flavor. I believe Balcones has set my expectations too high for American single malts. Update: a week later, it's unclear if this has improved or if my palate has recovered, but this now has more character than I initially gave it credit for. One might detect some resemblances to a young Speyside. Increasing the score by half a point. Still not exceptional, despite an older age statement than comparable American single malts.

The aroma is excellent, especially considering many bourbons in this cost bracket. The taste is good, but merely adequate when compared to other single malts I favor. The finish is very smooth, almost uneventful. It's worth $30. I'm not displeased, but I won't be buying it again. The flavor profile detailed on the bottle is nearly accurate. However, keep in mind I've only had a single serving. It might improve slightly. I plan to taste it completely neat (without ice) tomorrow.

Nose: grain, apple, honey, pear, nutmeg Palate: brown sugar, pear, honey, vanilla I chose this bottle out of curiosity—I had never tried a single malt whiskey that wasn't Scotch. It tastes quite similar to Glenlivet 12 (or any other Speyside, for that matter), which is interesting in itself. Overall, a decent choice! And not particularly expensive, so definitely worth trying.

Nose: It strongly resembles moonshine. There's a slight hint of aging. Taste: It's very smooth. Despite the moonshine aroma, it lacks the characteristic burn. There's an overall flavor reminiscent of an unaged spirit, but not corn moonshine. With multiple sips, the malt becomes apparent.

I'm detecting a strong essence of milf dirty panties, with undertones of nutmeg and brown sugar. This bourbon is mature, offering a slight kick and a mild burn, akin to nearly contracting herpes but not quite.
