McClelland's Single Malt Lowland

I had only tried one Lowlander before, which was an incredible Rosebank. I was captivated by it; it was light, fruity, citrusy, with layers of complexity. However, it was prohibitively expensive. So, I decided to try another Lowlander, purchasing this one for a fraction of the Rosebank's price. A huge mistake. The aroma is not unlike the initial scent you get from a hospital room. Ah yes, that camphor smell is unmistakable. The taste is even worse. Then it deteriorates; the finish is unfortunately quite long, which is not a good thing here. This is absolute torture. One more sip of this swill and I'll likely lose my vision. On the positive side, I've just discovered a new antiseptic for when my daughter gets scrapes from soccer.

Nose: syrupy sweet, with indistinct fruit and floral scents. A slight cinnamon aroma emerges with time, but it's not overly intricate. Taste: a light body with upfront sweetness, followed by fruit. It shifts to a spicy character, akin to ginger. The finish is also uncomplicated. I'm somewhat let down by this pour.

Curiosity got the better of me, as it was discounted. I wasn't thrilled with Glenkinchie either, and this is similar. It's just too floral and light. It will get consumed; it's not disgusting. It's barely more interesting than a basic blend, if that.

My initial experience trying scotch. With a couple of ice cubes, it initially presented a complex and somewhat pleasing flavor. However, as the ice diluted, it became harsher, with a sweet yet Band-Aid-like taste.

A buttery, biscuity smell with fruit notes. Tastes like shortbread, followed by a touch of tannin. Decent for what it costs, though not outstanding.

Very good. Malt, toffee, herbaceousness, a little citrus, an excellent option where there is no smokiness at all.
