We were fortunate to get a taste of this new Uncle Nearest offering. Our bottle originated from Barrel No. 7. It's understandable why it disappeared from shelves so fast. A rich whiskey packed with intense flavor, this spirit excels in every aspect of its creation, including its 121 proof. It possesses a smooth sweetness accompanied by many common bourbon notes: oak, leather, caramel, a hint of vanilla, spices for baking, and a whisper of cocoa. We would readily purchase this anytime, but as it's gone, we can only savor the recollection.

It opens with an oily, undeniably full-bodied, high-proof spirit, yet it's somehow controlled and subtly refined, revealing a burst of rich toasted toffeenut and vanilla with faint hints of cherries and plums that fade as a touch of cinnamon, spice, and maplewood coat the palate, leaving a smooth and mellowed finish. A genuinely comforting and enjoyable experience, deserving of its status as a top-shelf collector's item.

The nose is potent, sweet, and fruity, with grape and mineral notes. The palate offers more complexity: cherry, chocolate, and peppery with a lot of heat. A thickness lingers in the mouth, particularly on the teeth. The finish is better than anticipated. I expected bitterness, but it turned sweet and even hotter. It does fade with a mineral quality. Generally, I'm not a fan of Tennessee whiskeys. This was a welcome surprise.

Nose: Burnt brown sugar right away, surprisingly low/no ethanol, roasted green snap peas, earthy. Cereal notes. Rich fruity candy appears when it's thinner/near empty. Palate: Surprisingly sweet, light strawberry initially, honey syrupy. Finish: Very smooth, but neither lingers nor burns.
