About this bottle

This limited edition whiskey is the second in the Founder's Reserve Cask series, succeeding the Marsala Cask Finish from 2017. The blended Irish whiskey is a combination of single pot still and single malt whiskey aged in American oak ex-bourbon barrels. It then underwent a six-month finishing period in rum barrels that previously contained Chairman's Reserve Rum from Saint Lucia Distillers in the Caribbean. A total of 12 rum casks were used, yielding approximately 380 bottles per cask. This bottling, without chill-filtration, is at 46% alcohol by volume and became available in July 2018 across seven international markets: Ireland, the US, Canada, Russia, Germany, France, and Holland.

Nose: sweet, vanilla, sour apple, pepper Taste: butterscotch, vanilla, candied apple, slight spice (not much) chocolate. It definitely has some nice Irish characteristics from the blended Irish whiskey, making it a bit more complex than a standard Irish, quite similar to the original Founders Reserve, but the rum barrel finishing provides a silky finish. This complements the already smooth Irish whiskey well, as the rum cask influence really enhances it.

The aroma is like artificial banana Runts candy. The taste is sweet and spicy, with an initial wave of pepper and toasted coconut, followed by a cooling mint sensation.
