About this bottle
Egan's Conviction, released in early 2022, combines single grain and single malt Irish whiskeys, each aged for a minimum of ten years. Following blending, the whiskeys are placed into casks that previously contained XO Cognac. It is bottled at 92 proof.

Our initial impression is of a robust, somewhat full-bodied, and confident whiskey. The combination of two spirit styles creates distinct highs and lows on the palate. Rich, deep malt is balanced by light, airy single grain. Even with the single grain adding brightness, there's a sense of maturity rarely found in typical expressions. Finally, the ex-brandy cask aging imparts a subtle layer of dry, yet fruity color. This is a very well-crafted whiskey that should appeal to any lover of Irish spirits.

AROMA
Spiced dried orchard fruit, malt, copper, vanilla, banana chips, and a hint of minerality.
Minimal cognac influence on the nose, only subtle hints.
PALATE
Malt, banana taffy, baking spice, dried orchard fruit, nuts, and a touch of raisin and candy sweetness.
The cognac influence is more apparent here, with bolder spice and richer sweetness.
FINISH
Medium-short, featuring malt, fruit, baking spice, and vanilla.

This whiskey is definitely more mature. It has a thicker, oilier texture and a great nose. I first got ginger ale, then peach, and a hint of pear. The palate combined ginger ale with peach, like a peach cobbler dessert with ginger ale. It’s a great dram and I enjoyed it a lot!

Nose: apples, some caramel, and a lot of alcohol. Tongue: spicy, some nuts, more alcoholic caramel. Not my favorite.
