Teitessa Single Grain Japanese Whisky

A friend shared a pour of this limited Japanese release. With only 1000 bottles produced worldwide, it was a unique opportunity I was fortunate to experience. At 30 years old, this is my most aged tasting to date. The nose is certainly dominated by butterscotch with a faint hint of icing. I detect slightly more ethanol than I might have anticipated for its age, but it was freshly opened, so that might change. The initial sip is remarkably smooth. There's nothing harsh about this pour. Distinct notes of sweet marzipan and almond cookies are present. As the sweetness subsides, there's a very subtle citrus taste before a gentle, sweet finish. The conclusion isn't overwhelming but lingers on the tongue briefly before dissipating. To begin, I had no idea what to anticipate, having only Dewar's 27 to compare it against. Overall, this was a truly excellent glass. I'm not always a devoted fan of Japanese whisky, but this certainly holds its own. Considering its price point, it's something special to share, though I'm not entirely sure I would buy it for myself after having the chance to try it. If you are a fan of Japanese whisky, this is likely a must-purchase, and I certainly recommend it. For casual drinkers, this is probably best left to the connoisseurs.
