Nose- I notice citrus, vanilla, and some melon that's past its prime, similar to the rind of a cantaloupe. Palate- Sweet agave and pepper are the main tastes. It possesses a "Flintstone Vitamin" characteristic. Dare I say it's comparable to what one might find in a Dickel whiskey? I don't dislike it and actually find it to be an intriguing flavor. The drink is full-bodied and coats the tongue. Finish- This finish lasts an eternity! For better or worse, it lingers. It becomes somewhat woody and ethanol-forward as it fades. The black pepper subsides into a white pepper tingle. I wish I had tasted more cantaloupe as it departed. Overall- This is a pleasant tequila. Not an exceptional one, nor one that's essential, but an enjoyable drink. What truly impressed me on the positive side was the luxurious mouthfeel and the peppery zest. The minerality caught me off guard but made me want to drink more. It's like rubbernecking a car crash on the highway. It wasn't unpleasant, just unnecessary. My primary issue was the finish. Typically, I appreciate a lengthy finish that feels comforting. As a seasoned whiskey drinker who enjoys barrel proofs, I would welcome that. However, this takes it to another dimension. It overstays its welcome like a guest whose company you enjoyed but who overlongs their visit! I keep wondering when it will finally depart. I'm indifferent to this one. For the $49.99 price, it was a worthwhile experience. Above that price point... I'd say it lingered excessively.

About this bottle
Siete Leguas Tequila, named after the horse of Pancho Villa, originates from the Highlands region, specifically Atotonilco El Alto. The agave piñas are harvested and cooked in ovens before being processed by either a mule-driven tahona or modern shredding methods. Following fermentation, the aguamiel is distilled. The reposado variety undergoes eight months of aging in white oak barrels.

I believe this might be an excellent... benchmark tequila. Their unaged expression is simply a standard against which I find myself continually measuring others. Their reposado here is what I feel other reposados I've encountered have been aiming for or attempting to replicate. It possesses that vibrant, botanical cooked agave sweetness that defines "tequila," yet is complemented by woody, earthy, vanilla notes and more intricate elements such as brown sugar, lychee, and surprisingly tropical characteristics.
Served neat. Appears as a very light straw hue with significant legs. The aroma is fantastic. It has notes of fruit, roasted agave, and subtle butterscotch and vanilla sweetness. This is well-balanced by earthy oak, char, minerals, some herbaceousness, and black pepper. The flavor begins with agave sweetness, immediately followed by a burst of cinnamon candy, then fruit, vanilla, oak, black pepper, butterscotch, more black pepper, mint, citrus, and a hint of floral. The finish is sweet with some oak and a slight taste of red hot candies.
Siete Leguas reposado upholds the high standard set by its blanco counterpart. The dominant flavors of cooked agave are evident, forming the core for any true agave enthusiast. The aroma is enhanced by hints of raw and roasted agave, fleeting notes of ripe peach and plum, subtle oak, and traces of eucalyptus. On the palate, we detect the same bold cooked agave, vanilla, oak, cinnamon, and an oily texture on the tongue.
Opening the bottle 🍾 Let rest for about five minutes 👀: While the bottle airs, pale straw hues are visible; very clear; 👃: Smells very vegetal and grassy; hints of sweet sugar; a bit of pepper present; 👅: Truly oily; pepper notes are scattered throughout; very sweet notes; some lemon and lime towards the end; 🏁: The taste does linger for a bit; the citrus remains; very refreshing; perfect
Siete Leguas Reposado 90 Smell is refreshing and clean. Not clean like cleaner. Clean as in pure. Sweet on the nose that is presented on the tongue. Definitive barrel influence without destroying the agave spirit. Prevalent oak, sugary "very faint lemon" that pushes the beautiful ripe agave flavor. Smooth bright light pepper finish. A true mastering of tequila. Thanks a friend for the sample!
