Ron Barceló Gran Añejo

Bottle from the "Dark Series" purchased in Boca Chica, Dominican Republic. Color is a slightly pale amber. Smells of sugarcane, but also caramel and vanilla from the bourbon barrel. Hazelnuts in the background, some small dried fruits, maple water, and very gentle alcohol. Truly excellent. On the palate, a nice interplay between the rum and the bourbon barrel, sweet and vanilla-like, very smooth even though you sense the whisky's full body, still some berries like on the nose, nuts, maple. The alcohol appears briefly at the start of the sip but fades quickly. The texture is lacking a bit of finish but good overall. An excellent entry-level rum.

A very good, very smooth rum, with a broad sugary sweetness and body, featuring subtle hints of coffee and sweet spice. It has a very mild lingering burn. I endorse this as a great value with significant return on investment. It's a very easy-drinking rum, a decent mixer, and a simple sipper (though lacking distinct or surprising character).

Golden-hued rum. Oak, vanilla, orange, and faint spice notes on the nose. Brown sugar, orange, and spice persist on the palate. The finish is sweet and pleasant. Another suitable rum for mixing, but also a nice, easy sipper.

This rum is very smooth. It's a great place to start if you're new to rum. The price is also quite good.

One of the most well-liked rums in the Dominican Republic. Sweet and fruity. Excellent in Hurricanes.

Nothing spectacular, but acceptable... drinkable neat, which is already a major plus.
