About this bottle

Distilled in Richmond, Virginia, Reservoir Wheat Whiskey is made with a mash bill consisting entirely of locally sourced wheat. To accelerate maturation, the whiskey is aged in small oak barrels and is bottled at precisely 100 proof.

Nose: Gentle baking spices (similar to rye spice), faint cereal, orange zest, toffee apple, dark fruit. A subtle ethanol sting and a pronounced woody character – like freshly cut timber, not aged barrels. Palate: A spicy and sweet initial taste with mild warmth. Buttered popcorn and granola with caramel sauce emerge, transitioning to a bitter profile with coffee grounds and toasted sourdough. Mint and menthol appear towards the finish. A consistent tannic sensation is present throughout the palate. The mouthfeel is adequate. Finish: Medium to short. Spice and cereal turn sour and flinty at the end. It's a perfectly drinkable whiskey but lacks any real excitement. There are no major flaws (aside from its apparent youth, if that's considered a flaw), but nothing particularly captivating either. It's average, in a positive way. Adding water amplifies the palate's spice notes, bringing them close to the intensity of a very spicy rye whiskey, but it's neither appealing nor off-putting – it's simply present. Sampled from a 30ml tasting portion, I was pleased to have the opportunity to try it before considering a 750ml bottle, which costs an exorbitant AUD$160 in Australia. Buying it at that price would lead to significant regret. "Average": 79/100 (2.75 stars)

Pleasant palate to conclude the experience; well-balanced and spiced; toasted wheat; the palate and finish are stronger than the mid-palate; younger age doesn't bring out the barrel oak; wheat mash and spice dominate. Year 2020, Batch 8 small batch.

I love my city, but this spirit tastes young. Decent nose, but the palate is pure oak. Wheat comes through on the finish, but overall there's no complexity.

Kyla Mark 2.0

Aroma of cherry and vanilla. It begins sweet with red fruit notes, but the finish is extremely long and intensely hot.

Marion Mcmillan 4.5

Full body, meat and honey, spicy but not smoky, has that acceptable taste, lingers on the tongue

Thelma Payne

Subtle vanilla notes with a long, syrupy finish that has no burn. The nose is floral.
