Star Hill Farm American Wheat Whisky (2025 Release)

The aroma presents intriguing elements like baked apple, marshmallow, honeysuckle, cigar, ripe plum, vanilla, toasted coconut, and freshly cut green oak. The ethanol is noticeable, indicating cask strength, but not unpleasantly so. It's quite inviting. The taste is less sweet than the aroma suggested, leaning into baking spices with abundant allspice and nutmeg, alongside toasted oak, cashew, vanilla, and black and pink peppercorns. A subtle blackberry note lies underneath. The flavors are impactful. The finish immediately improves things with lingering berry from the palate, burnt marshmallow, vanilla custard, cherry tobacco, and more toasted oak. It's wonderfully long, but the mouthfeel is lacking, being on the lighter side of medium-bodied and a bit grainy. This, along with a drying sensation on the tongue, doesn't enhance the flavors well. A distinctive whiskey that I truly enjoyed, possessing a flavor profile unlike any other Maker's expressions. I paid a bit over the $129.99 retail price due to fear of missing out, and at that cost, I quite like it, but I'm not sure if I love it. Perhaps I'd purchase it again at that price if nothing else on the shelf caught my eye? Then again, possibly not. Since I'm undecided, I'll rate it a 4.0, signifying a potential repurchase.

Nose: Standard wheat aroma, grainy, caramel, burnt sugar. Perhaps some marshmallow. Palate: Fruity at first, with some dark fruits beneath the initial sweetness, good body. The mid-palate has anise and licorice. A slight tingle on the tongue, more burnt sugar in the finish. Tannins on the finish. I definitely disagree with a certain person on this one. Much better than their rating.

Quite enjoyable. The flavor profile and finish are remarkably impressive. It's smooth to drink, a superb bottle from the folks at MM.

I like this. It's sweet and spicy and doesn't really taste like Maker's Mark.
