A fantastic bottling if you manage to acquire it! Honey and citrus peel on the aroma. Subtle spice on the taste, followed by roasted hazelnuts at the end. The finish lingers. Truly delightful, invigorating, full-bodied, and entertaining... a pleasing alternative to traditional Cognac!

About this bottle
Pierre Ferrand Renegade Barrel No. 2 is matured in both oak and chestnut barrels. Aging in chestnut, a practice largely abandoned since 1945 and consequently omitted from current Cognac AOC regulations, means this spirit is designated an "eau de vie." It is produced entirely from Grande Champagne grapes and is bottled at 47.1% ABV, with limited availability.

Nose reminiscent of caramel and white grape skins. Initial sweetness. Chestnut barrels impart beautiful character. Honey, nougat, sarsaparilla, and oak are present. A well-crafted brandy.
Excellent, the fruit is upfront, followed by pleasant floral notes, and a long, rich finish with nuts. It reminds me of a fine Speyside Scotch, but it's better due to the grapes.
Smooth and complex, but does not stand out when warmed.
