Pelotón de la Muerte Mezcal Joven Espadín

July 11 2022: Bought about a year ago at a private liquor store in Park Royal South, W. Vancouver. Opened a small bottle just now, poured an ounce and a half into a whiskey tasting glass. It's unaged, so no color as expected. Herbal on the nose, herbal and briny on the palate, perhaps a faint hint of smoke? It's decent for a basic mezcal, but not something to sip on its own. I'm adding it to Mott’s Clamato Original. It makes a very good Caesar, and the tequila/mezcal Caesar is a favorite of mine from long ago. Yes!

It could be enjoyed over ice, mixed with orange juice or lemonade, or used in a simple margarita with lime and sugar... it's exactly how a fine mescal ought to be... decadent agave sweetness with a whisper of ash underneath. Had it been aged, it might have been smoother and more intricate, but for the cost, it's unbeatable.

Aroma: subtle smokiness, citrus Flavor: gentle agave sweetness, mild spice, nutty undertones Overall, a superb mezcal, particularly for those new to the spirit. Its smokiness isn't overwhelming, making it ideal for mixed drinks like a smoky Paloma or a smoky margarita.

Smells like banana peel and butterscotch. Tastes sweet, then spicy, then smoky, like cayenne on a butterscotch candy. Has a pear-like quality when swallowed. Both intriguing and pleasing.

Attractive presentation; the bottle itself is very appealing. The flavor is robust, with a strong agave presence. To be frank, it's one of the best in its cost bracket.

Exceptional product. Superior to all others in its class.
