Consumed neat. Evaluating the entire Altos range... this is my first experience with the añejo. Nose presents as sweet, with bright ethanol, fruitiness, oak barrel, and a musty quality. The mouthfeel is moderately thin, with honey/light caramel sweetness, a hint of char, some nutty dessert notes (hazelnut/macadamia/almond), cinnamon, mint, and just a trace of the herbal notes found in the younger expressions. I'm a big supporter of the younger expressions, and this stays true to the brand. The añejo notes are less pronounced than in other inexpensive añejos, but it also tastes more natural. Additives appear to be restrained, if not absent. Excellent value; I haven't found a superior añejo for a lower price.

About this bottle
Olmeca Altos Tequila was developed by renowned UK bartenders Henry Besant (deceased) and Dre Masso, in partnership with Maestro Tequilero Jesús Hernández, who possesses nearly two decades of distillation experience. Introduced in 2016, Olmeca Altos Añejo Tequila represents the newest addition to the brand's portfolio. It is crafted from 100% blue weber agave, harvested at an elevation of 7,000 feet in the fertile volcanic soil of Los Altos, Jalisco. Traditional production methods are employed, including slow-cooking the agave in brick ovens and then crushing it with a tahona stone, a technique used for 500 years. Following a double distillation in copper stills, the tequila is aged for 18 months in bourbon oak barrels before bottling.

A spicy aroma with a faint vegetal quality. The spice persists in the taste, almost like a sweet rye with a long, slow finish. If you enjoy whisky, you might want to sample this.
Nose: woody/earthy, yogurt, sweet On the palate: smooth, caramel, buttery, light/thin with character. Little oak, fruity caramel. Definitely enjoyable
Enjoyable but a bit harsh... Too much of that tequila aroma and lingering burn... Needs another try
A very fine añejo, truly showcasing its age and oak influence. Sharp, woody, and reminiscent of whisky.
Smooth with a smoky finish, minimal bite, a nice choice to sip neat.
