About this bottle

This tequila is made with organic agaves from the Los Altos region near Nayarit. The piñas undergo autoclaving for 20 hours, followed by fermentation with proprietary yeast and triple distillation. The añejo expression matures for 18 months in used bourbon barrels, resulting in a dark straw color, and is bottled at 100 proof.

From a Liquor Junction single barrel selection, Lot 608, Barrel 4, aged for 29 months in a Beam bourbon barrel. Straw-colored. The nose offers vegetal agave sweetness, charred marshmallows, and perhaps due to the season, I'm detecting a flavor reminiscent of snow cream (a mixture of vanilla extract and condensed milk). The texture is surprisingly thick and velvety. On the palate, I taste agave, wet stone, charred jalapeños, vanilla extract, and black pepper. The finish is medium-long, pleasantly warming, and peppery. The vanilla extract smoothly transitions to butterscotch, with the vegetal sweetness remaining in the background.

The ethanol on the nose was surprising until I realized it was 100 proof. There's also an herbal, sweet agave aroma that carries through to the palate. The alcohol from the nose translates to pepper on the palate. Organic, 100% blue agave, 100 proof; are there other requirements for an excellent sipping blanco? I think not.

$69 at Stateline Elite. Aroma is very light, with hints of leather and butterscotch. Palate offers creamy vanilla, oak, and caramel, along with a touch of spice and cocoa. A very smooth mint finish with a bit of earthy/mossy character. Astonishingly smooth for a 100 proof spirit. I adore this! The best añejo I have ever had.

A very good tequila. I've sampled the reposado, which is also quite good, but the anejo is smoother with a superior taste. Ideal straight or mixed. I create a drink with a shot mixed with a splash of lime-flavored carbonated water, a slice of lime, a slice of lemon, and ice. A perfect beverage!

Neal Han 4.0

Rich roasted agave, oak, sweet tropical fruit, and gentle pepper. A delicious profile, with only a slight warmth from the alcohol content. Comparable to Herradura, with a very similar profile but more heat. Not sold in Ontario.

Marian Broughton 4.5

Fantastic sipper for the price! I also used it in Mexican Old Fashioneds, adding agave sweetener, chocolate Mexican bitters, and a cherry. Amazing!
