Sampled over a large ice cube. This whiskey presents a sharp, spicy, woody aroma that suggests black or even chili pepper, with a hint of pithy orange similar to Aperol. It has a potent, sharp taste that tingles the tongue, reminiscent of peppercorns infused with vanilla. With some effort, a suggestion of orange pith or perhaps unripe pear can be detected. I'm surprised by professional assessments that identify numerous flavors. For me, the vanilla flavor is overwhelmingly dominant. While its assertive spiciness might be better suited for a cocktail, I find it less ideal for sipping neat.

Old Overholt Straight Rye Whiskey offers a sour cherry Cabernet Sauvignon wine aroma with a charred new oak undertone. The initial taste is tart and sour, with a dry Cabernet Sauvignon flavor. The finish is rye and tart cherry. Excellent for dry Manhattans, Old Fashioneds, and Whiskey Sours.
Old Overholt 4 Year appears clear and copper. The nose features minty grain. The taste is similar, with notes of bread crust. The texture is low to medium, and the finish is short to medium. RJT
After my initial tasting, I immediately placed this bottle on my acquisition list, anticipating a price point around $100. I was quite taken aback upon discovering its actual cost.
