Garryana 7th Edition N: The smell of this spirit is not subtle; it's quite prominent. It leads with a powerful floral character, followed by notes of oak. I couldn't identify this spirit by its aroma alone. I'd place it as either a whiskey or something similar, but it's very unlike most other spirits I have. If you have the patience, dedicate 5-10 minutes with your nose in a Glencairn glass to fully appreciate it. After about 10 minutes, it begins to suggest it might be an American Single Malt. P: Your palate is met with very bright sensations that transition into a delightful maltiness with a vanilla coating. I'm finding it hard to capture its essence accurately. I wonder if more of my favorite Scotches would offer such a taste explosion if they were closer to 100 proof. All the flavors are harmoniously blended. This is a superb illustration of American Single Malt's potential. If you appreciate Highland Scotch and would like to amplify it, smooth out any rough edges, and enjoy a lingering finish, I strongly recommend trying this. Hints of baking spices, particularly cinnamon, emerge after allowing it time to develop. F: The finish is medium to long, starting floral and ending with cinnamon on the exhale. The mouthfeel is excellently oily.

About this bottle
This limited edition bottling, Garryana Edition 7, is part of Westland's Outpost Range Collection, which focuses on products from the Pacific Northwest. Quercus garryana, an oak native to the region, is featured in this release. Westland also incorporated Washington State syrah and cabernet sauvignon red wine casks for finishing, along with a small quantity of first-fill ex-bourbon casks. The American single malt's barley composition includes Washington Select Pale Malt, Munich Malt, Extra Special Malt, Pale Chocolate Malt, Brown Malt, and Baird's Heavily Peated Malt. Production was capped at 6,900 bottles, with availability anticipated in February 2023 for $149.99 suggested retail price.

Spectacular. A sweet, thick caramel scent. Some complexity from the wine is evident. The red wine contributes wonderful, distinctive flavors. Classic Westland richness allows all the tastes to develop nicely. Very pleasing.
