About this bottle

Anchor Distilling introduced Hotaling's single malt to honor the Anson Parson's Hotaling Building, one of the few structures to survive the 1906 San Francisco earthquake. While it does not have a formal age statement, the 100% malted rye whiskey, produced in a pot still, was aged for over 11 years in charred oak barrels that had been previously used.

Melanie Cooper 4.0

Upon opening, the bottle emits a strong tequila aroma that was initially unappealing. The first taste mirrors this, but it quickly transforms into a smooth, buttery, and very flavorful rye. I enjoy this for sipping, though I'm unsure about its performance in a sazerac.

Lucille Bower 1.0

Completely awful! Avoid unless you enjoy oak-flavored unaged spirits. Young spirits like this infuriate me, and they charge over $60 for it. I get that new distilleries are entering the market, but don't deceive people.

Roderick Burnham 4.8

Nose: Resembles a spring lawn early in the morning after being cut. Almost like tequila. Nice citrus and spice burst. Palate: Creamy butterscotch and autumnal flavors. Tongue experiences that nice baking spice. Finish: Long and flavorful. Full of oak, butter, and baking spices.

Earle Perales 4.0

I tried the stout cask finish. It's lively on the palate and quite enjoyable.

Cole Caldwell 3.0

Pale color, with salty/sweet brine, vanilla, and prune.

Camden Mobley

This rye is quite distinctive and not the typical spicy profile I'm accustomed to. I find it quite appealing.
