About this bottle
Nikka's limited edition Discovery Series, introduced in 2021, investigates various whisky-making production methods employed by the brand over its history. The 2022 contribution to this series comprises two whiskies focused on the distinct aromas generated by yeast from Nikka's Yoichi and Miyagikyo distilleries, using experimental yeast cultures. The Yoichi Aromatic Yeast expression is bottled without chill-filtration at 48% ABV. Availability in the US began on October 24, 2022, with only 2,640 bottles of both expressions offered, carrying a suggested retail price of $274.99.

A soft and gentle aroma, with notes of banana, apple, and melon topped with a veneer of burnt peat smoke. The initial taste reveals sweetness of demerara sugar, fresh pear, and fennel lightly touched with black pepper. The finish ends on a floral note with some sake-like yeastiness. In summary, a light, delicate, and not overly smoky whisky that is quite subtle. An interesting and characteristic blend for NIKKA.
Similar to the standard version, but actually a bit lighter and sweeter.
Spicy at first, sweet at the end, quite pleasant and very good.
Right at the very top, there's something.
This one was enjoyable.
