The Barrel Cut retains the diverse richness and array of notes from the original Monkey 47, but it's sweeter and fruitier in the aroma, and particularly with significant caramel sweetness in the taste. Absolutely delicious neat; surprisingly, ice actually mutes the distinctive flavor, leaving only a fresh herbal bite. Tonic, however, does not; it results in an impression with a slightly woody, herbal hint reminiscent of cola or maple syrup, but more subtle and refined, which I wouldn't have anticipated from my first aged gin. All my enthusiasm for drinking it neat or with tonic; it's divine, forget about it on the rocks.
