About this bottle

This expression, released in autumn 2015, is one of three barrel-aged gins from San Francisco's Distillery No. 209. Reflecting their background in winemaking, they take their signature gin – made from Midwestern corn via five distillations and incorporating at least eight distinct botanicals – and age it for approximately four months in French oak barrels that once held chardonnay from their affiliated winery, the Rudd Oakville Estate in Napa Valley. It is presented at 46% ABV.

This is a very unique gin. The first time I tried it was a bad experience. Fresh from the bottle, it has a smell and taste of chardonnay that went bad. Several weeks after opening the bottle, I tried it a second time but I let it sit for a few minutes on ice before trying it. The result improved quite a bit but still a far cry from what you should expect on a $45 gin
