About this bottle

Created by the Pearse Lyons Distillery team, Míl Gin is an Irish pot-distilled spirit featuring Mediterranean botanicals such as almonds, basil, bergamot orange, gooseberry, olives, orris, rosemary, and thyme, alongside juniper. In Irish lore, Míl was a Spanish warrior whose descendants settled Ireland.

Is this a pot-still cask? Barrel-aged? From Ireland? Remember, the people posting this are allowed to operate vehicles. Setting aside that nonsense, I was quite impressed (though intoxicated) trying this gin at its sister distillery in Lexington. I found the Mediterranean botanicals distinctly unique compared to their other dry gin offering. I appreciate the Irish character this bottle evokes, along with its artistic and overall "craft" design. To finally put this on my shelf, I'm ready for a more sober assessment. The botanicals used are so distinctive and often potent individually, making it somewhat surprising and disappointing that the aroma was primarily juniper, some citrus, berries, and herbs, with none standing out clearly. With repeated smelling, however, thyme and rosemary become apparent, as do the other botanicals, but very subtly. This gin has a pleasant body and develops as the flavors emerge. Initially, only balanced citrus and juniper are tasted, but with more aeration and subsequent sips, a sour, almost bitter fruitiness emerges, counteracted by herbaceousness, even though the herbs aren't strongly tasted. The finish isn't as dry as anticipated; while there's some dryness on the front of the tongue, a moderate amount of citrus oil lingers in the back of the mouth, making me want to revisit it to see if I can enhance previous notes or discover new ones. Even if you intensely analyze this gin while tasting, you won't find flavors like kalamata olives or fresh basil. Instead, you'll taste a uniquely individual gin that merits repeated tasting in various ways to truly appreciate its distinct botanicals and hopefully discover how they can be more prominent. This is undoubtedly a unique craft gin, offered at an appealing price for those seeking something different, special, and accessible.

I’m not clear why this is labeled as barrel-aged gin or why the price is listed as extremely high… but anyway. This is genuinely excellent and highly distinctive. The incorporation of almond and bergamot, alongside other botanicals, results in a citrus taste with a prominent orange note that I find delightful.

The aroma is refreshing, floral, and citrusy with a delicate herbal undertone. On the palate, there's orange sweetness beneath the tongue, accompanied by pepperiness and a spirituous warmth.

With a distinct floral taste.
